Geolocated thermal monitoring on a piece of rail

The connected SENSE Core Rail Temperature solution allows continuous temperature monitoring of the tracks, without the need for human intervention other than installation. The device collects over long distance and in real time geolocated temperature measurements to the nearest tenth of a degree.

The solution consists of a connected sensor positioned on a piece of rail. A digital display allows a local temperature reading.

A Cloud allows data to be displayed on the SENSE Web interface or redirected to an external information system.

Temperature thresholds can be defined (via the web interface) to inform maintenance teams of the status of the network and to alert them when so-called critical temperature levels are exceeded.

The deformation of the rails, under high temperature, creates an important safety problem that can endanger train operations and cause emergency intervention needs.

To anticipate the effects of these deformations during the summer period, a manual temperature reading is currently being made using a thermometer inside a piece of rail, placed next to the tracks.

This control operation requires a movement of maintenance staff. It is thus dependent on the availability of the agents and one can be confronted with errors related to a manual reading
